Tibetan community-in-exile to elect new parliament in 2021

Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh), Aug 06 (ANI): The Election Commission of Central Tibetan Administration, popularly known as the government-in-exile, on Wednesday (Aug 05) announced the start of the process for 2021 general elections. Election Commission held a press conference to make an official announcement of upcoming election of fifth Sikyong (president of the CTA) and the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile in Dharamshala. In an interview with ANI, Wangdu Tsering, the chief election Commissioner in-exile says, “The main purpose of today's conference is to announce the election process and the whole model code of conduct will be started from today (Aug 05). The candidates who want to campaign can start their campaigning but they have to follow the instructions of the election commission.”Wangdu Tsering said the Office of the Election Commission is committed to conducting the election as per the stipulated time period “despite the current challenges precipitated by the COVID-19 crisis”.
