102-year-old ‘Sarinda’ player from WB expresses happiness on receiving Padma Shri award

Jalpaiguri (WB), Jan 26 (ANI): 102-year-old ‘Sarinda’ player from Jalpaiguri, West Bengal Mangala Kanti Roy conferred with the Padma Shri award in the arts category. While talking to ANI, ‘Sarinda’ player Mangala Kanti Roy said that he had been playing the instrument since the age of 4-5 years and was feeling very happy ever since he came to know about the award. “Ever since we came to know about the Padma award, I have been feeling very happy. I have been playing Sarinda since the age of 4-5 years. Have played sarinda everywhere from Delhi, Kamakhya, Guwahati to Darjeeling,” said musician Mangala Kanti Roy.
