Pegasus Project is serious national security concern: Tharoor

Updated:2 months, 1 week ago

New Delhi, July 20 (ANI): Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on July 20 said the Pegasus Project media report issue is a matter of serious national security concern and the government needs to give an explanation on it. He said, “Since this product is only sold to vetted govts, question arises which govt? If GoI says they haven't done it, some other govt did it, then it's more serious national security concern,” Tharoor said to ANI.“If it turns out that it's our govt and it's authorized (to do it), GoI needs to give an explanation as the law only permits interception of communication for issues of national security, terrorism; otherwise, it's illegal. Essential for govt to cooperate in a probe,” he added. It comes after some media reports have claimed that cellphones of around 40 Indian journalists were tapped by using Israeli spyware 'Pegasus' by an unknown agency.
