The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted the Indian Railways authorities and Uttarakhand government eight weeks' time to work out a solution in relation to the rehabilitation of the people who were asked to vacate the encroachments from railway land in Banbhoolpura area of Haldwani.
The Uttarakhand government has distributed an amount of Rs 2.85 crore to 190 families affected by land subsidence as advance for displacement, said Disaster Management Secretary Ranjit Kumar Sinha on Monday.
"It has been decided in the cabinet that to prevent corruption in recruitment, a strict anti-copying law will be brought by the government soon," Uttarakhand government Chief Secretary S S Sandhu said.
The Uttarakhand government on Thursday informed the Delhi High Court that the Centre and State government are taking all possible steps with regard to the Joshimath land subsidence crisis, including deployment of NDRF teams and providing rehabilitation packages to the affected people.
