Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday revealed an alleged 'Cash-for-treatment' scam in central government-run Safdarjung Hospital. Doctors along with brokers have been caught demanding bribes from poor people for treatment, overbilling patients and laundering money.
The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday arrested a neurosurgeon of Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi and four others for allegedly being involved in illegal activities and accepting money in exchange for medical advice.
"After the agency had received complaints related to a doctor and middlemen, raids in Delhi were conducted last evening to expose the nexus between them. During raids, CBI found increment documents related to corruption," a CBI official told AN

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday called for an additional status report in a matter related to death of a patient who allegedly jumped off from the roof of the hospital from a high security Covid isolation ward. It has been claimed by the authorities that the patient committed suicide.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, while speaking at the event said that the Central government has decided to open Integrative Medicine Centers at all government medical establishments, especially all AIIMS in the country.
Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr Mansukh Mandaviya and Union Minister of Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal jointly inaugurated the Integrative Medicine Centre of All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) at Safdarjung hospital.
"It was revealed that the victim who was in his Santro car had put some inflammable substance on his body and set himself on fire, as reported by witnesses," an official added.
In an alleged hit-and-run case, a PhD student died near the IIT gate after being hit a raging car while he was crossing the road. He was declared dead in the Safdarjung hospital while his friend survived and is undergoing treatment at the Max hospital.
The medical board at Safdarjung hospital on Friday filed a preliminary medical report on the health condition of Gurupada Maji, an accused in the West Bengal coal mining money laundering case.
