The Supreme Court on Thursday questioned the Centre on the appointment of former IAS officer Arun Goel as the new Election Commissioner at a "lighting speed" saying the process was completed within 24 hours.
Attorney General R Venkataramani, appearing for the Centre, objected to the mixing up of the appointment of Goel with the larger issue of the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Election Commissioners (ECs) already being heard by the court.
"The President is pleased to appoint Arun Goel, IAS (Retd.) (PB: 1985) as the Election Commissioner in the Election Commission with effect from the date he assumes the office," it said.
New Delhi [India], Feb 14 (ANI): Less than two months before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Sushil Chandra, chairperson of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), was on Thursday appointed as the new Election Commissioner of India.
