New Delhi [India], September 17 (ANI): The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is just that little extra. And that little extra is provided by self-learning.

Self-learning provides the students with a mechanism to grasp knowledge themselves regularly.

This helps the students to learn better and achieve higher levels in the process of attaining education at their schools or anywhere else.

The end results in the form of school tests or any other tests are brilliant. It provides the students with an array of explorations related to the sub-topics that they have studied in the school/institute on the same day or a few days earlier.

Here are some ways to enable self-learning by Nikita Singhal, the founder at Talent4Assure -

Organise brainstorming sessions: On the basis of student's input about course topics, the instructor can create open-ended problems that can offer multiple solutions and encourage them to find out multiple ways before concluding on one particular solution.

Refrain from providing information: Regardless of how topics were selected, the instructor presents the problems to student/groups before providing any formal instruction on the topic.

Learning teamwork: Throughout the sessions, the instructions ensure that all learners should be involved in the question-solving process and must create awareness among students with the resources needed to solve the problems, along with identifying common problem areas or misconceptions.

Highlight depth: Let students get time to work on one thing at a time depending on its relevance along with difficulty. Upon completing the research or inquiry phase of problem solving, groups may be required to write a report and present it to the rest of the class.

Organise systematic analysis: Analysing progress at regular intervals. If necessary, interrupt group work to correct misconceptions, or to bring groups up to par with one another.

Hold class discussions: Allow time for class discussion of the problem at the end of the session, or at the beginning of the next class period.

Simplify peer feedback: A critical part of learning process is the feedback that the students receive from their friends. Attendance, level of preparation for class, listening and other communication skills, ability to bring new and relevant piece of information to the group and to support and improve the functioning of the group on a whole.

Learning accurately: Self-enabled learning should be based on authenticity, exploring the extent to which the students can internalise holistic approaches towards complex problems, which is to say that they should be structured so that students can display their understanding of problems and their solutions in contextually-meaningful ways.
